I grew up in the north west of England and have very happy memories of going for long walks in the country side with my mum, dad and my two younger sisters. I loved the country side, the canal with the swans, we always fed them with some bread my mum had brought along, colourful barges and big wet frogs that my dad always managed to find by swishing his hand under the grassy bank of the canal. Picnics and swimming on the River Lune were a favourite too.
I have always loved drawing, diring those early years my dad worked at a lino factory and he used to bring piles of glossy brochures home for me to draw on, they had pictures of the lino pattern on the front side and pristine white paper on the back, it had a certain smell, a beautiful 'paper'smell, and I've carried that addiction all my life, I can't walk into an art shop without purchasing some paper!
I loved art class at school and spent most lunchtimes sitting on the edge of the tennis court drawing pictures of models and big eyed girls, my best friend Josephine and I designed lot's of clothing for our models, inspired by the girly comics and magazines of the day.
I like to draw happy pictures, especially the ones that tell a story. The characters I create are inspired by real people and from my imagination. Imagination has no bounderies and that's a wonderful freedom. I paint from the heart, and each morning when I walk into my studio I am thinking 'what should I paint today' and I paint whatever I'm drawn to that day. It might be some quirky characters that I noticed at the swimming pool, or some delicious flowers from my garden, or even some little treasures from the beach....
